VolunteerS NEEDED!The Manse will open for the 2008 season on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, providing tours of the historic house as well as opening a new exhibition space, gift shop, and entrance for visitors. We need two types of volunteers: Tour Guides and Reception Desk Greeters. Tour Guides provide tours of the historic house on the hour, beginning at 11 a.m, with the last tour starting at 2 p.m. Reception Desk Greeters will welcome visitors to our site and orient them to the exhibit, the gift shop, and the timing of the next house tour. Both of these volunteer positions are excellent ways to meet new people and learn more about the life of President Pierce and his family. All new volunteers are required to attend one session of training. Two training sessions will be offered in 2008: one on Tuesday, June 3rd and one on Saturday, June 7th. Each session runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch and materials provided. Please contact Lori Fisher, Director of Programs and Collections, at (603) 225-4617 ext. 10 for more information, or e-mail her at lfisher@politicallibrary.org

Did You Know...Franklin left to fight in the Mexican War on May 13, 1847 after an emotional send-off from a large group of Concord citizens. He made a brief address to the crowd, stating "I will come back with honor, or I will not come back at all." After participating in two major battles, Franklin came home on January 27, 1848.
